[Hanoi] ASEAN - China and Hong Kong Free Trade Area Conference: How to Benefit Enterprises?

The trade and investment relationship with China occupy a large proportion of Vietnamese enterprises' business activities. With the support of many important agreements and commitments between Vietnam and China, especially the 2004 ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA), total bilateral trade value between these two countries has increased and reached approximately $70 billion in 2016. However, the benefits that businesses gain from these agreements are still not up to its full potential. By 2015, less than a third of Vietnam's exports to China had tax benefit from ACFTA tariff preferences.

On 21 November, 2017, the ASEAN - Hong Kong (China) Free Trade Area was officially ratified, opening the priorities for Vietnamese goods in this special economic zone of China. Prior to this agreement, in 2016, the revised ACFTA Protocol also came into effect with the main objective to improve the rules of origin (ROO) and favored trade to enhance ACFTA capacity. Once again, Vietnamese enterprises have a great opportunity to increase their trade and profit within the Chinese market.

To help Vietnamese businesses understand more about the new opportunities, thereby increasing the benefits of doing business with China, the WTO Center of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) together with the VEPR’s Chinese Economic Studies Program (VCES), Omega Vietnam Book Company and the Development and Policies Research Center (DEPOCEN) under the sponsorship of Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) organize the Conference:
